Fans of the television shows can visit the settings for "Last Of The Summer Wine" and "Where The Heart Is", both are filmed within this very area, and a little further afield, "Heartbeat" and "Emmerdale". For almost 30 years, viewers have tuned in to follow the antics of the characters in 'Last of the Summer Wine', and to take in the stunning backdrop of the Holme Valley . In Holmfirth you can visit various locations including Sid's Café, the Last of the Summer Wine Exhibition and the Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom. Filming for the series now takes place in many other locations. The White Horse Inn at Jackson Bridge is known locally as the 'Summer Wine pub'. "Where the Heart is" has also established itself as one of ITV's top programmes. Much of the filming takes place in the Colne Valley villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden, which together with locations in nearby Meltham become the fictional village of 'Skelthwaite.

For National Trust members, West Yorkshire is a treasure trove to be explored: Nostell Priory is an 18th Century architectural masterpiece and is only twenty minutes away by car. There is also Beningbrough Hall, Fountains Abbey, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Abbey, and the Treasurer's House at York to name but a few! There is also a vast area of Yorkshire coast around Robin Hood's Bay, and moorland such as Malham Tarn, Brimham Rocks and right on our doorstep is the Marsden Moor Estate.

For those who enjoy walking there is a wealth of choice, starting right outside the back doors of Sycamore Farm Cottages, up to Huddersfield 's most famous landmark - Castle Hill! Farnley Tyas is right on the edge of the Peak District and it is not very far from the North Yorkshire Moors. Closer to home there are walks over the Pennines and around the reservoirs beyond Holmfirth which rival anything the Lake District has to offer.

Whatever your sport, it can be catered for in the Huddersfield area. Woodsome Hall Golf Club is on the edge of Sycamore Farm, Meltham, Outlane and Longley courses are a short drive away. Huddersfield Town Football Club - "The Terriers" and Huddersfield Giants play at the Galpharm Stadium in town. There are numerous fitness centres and gyms in the locality, Huddersfield Sports Centre is in the town centre. The Trans-Pennine Trail and the Longdendale Trail are close by for cycling fans. |
